One thing I like, well love to do is sit back with my girlfriends, relax and try new wines but not just any wines, we like to try family owned wines. I mean wine is a moms best friend, right? I know in my case it is. Want to know what else I love doing? Pairing new wines with some of my favorite recipes, which isn't always easy. Thankfully Sutter Home has a delicious line of affordable, award-winning wines like my new favorite, Chardonnay. And it pairs perfectly with a recipe I love making, Mini Cuban Tostone Sandwiches. These sandwiches are easy to make and you can enjoy a glass of Sutter Home Chardonnay while making them.

Sutter Home Chardonnay is a medium dry wine. It's fresh pear and citrus aromas lead to rich, creamy peach and apple flavors, and a full, luxurious finish. It pairs great with foods like Tostone, which are twice fried plantain slices and one of my favorites growing up and now, Cuban sandwiches. I remember always asking my mom to bring me to our local panaderĂa just to get one of their delicious sandwiches. Fast forward to now and I have this wonderful recipe that is enjoyed by everyone and complements Sutter Home Chardonnay perfectly.

Making a Tostone is easy. First, heat oil in a large skillet. While heating, peel your plantain and cut it into 1-inch chunks. Next, Place the plantains in the oil and fry on both sides (3 minutes on each side). Remove the plantains from the skillet and flatten the plantains by placing a plate over the fried plantains and pressing down, I like to press them on waxed paper, so they don't stick. And lastly, return them to the hot oil and fry 1 minute on each side. But with this recipe, I turn these already delicious Tostones into even better sandwiches.

To make a Cuban Sandwich all you need is Pernil, slow-roasted marinated pork shoulder, I like to use leftover pernil warmed up and cut up, Ham - deli ham is perfect, Swiss Cheese, Pickles, Mustard and of course, your already made Tostones, making them, Mini Cuban Tostone Sandwiches.

Last step, Layer your Sandwich. Start with a Tostone, add some Mustard, Ham, Swiss Cheese, Pork, Pickles and top it with another Tostone. I like to use a toothpick at the end, but that's completely optional.

And just like that, you have a delicious sandwich to pair with a glass or two of Sutter Home Chardonnay, and I promise your girlfriends will love it.
